Albert_RoblesTHE CARSON LEGACY Environmental Pioneer’s Efforts Continue In Prophetic Coincidence

Written by Albert Robles

Today, Monday, April 14, 2014, we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the passing of Rachel L. Carson. She is credited by environmentalists and concerned citizens around the world as the Mother of the Environmental Movement for her pivotal role in raising awareness of man-made threats to the environment. Her seminal work, Silent Spring ignited a grassroots environmental consciousness that led to cleaner air, cleaner water and ultimately to the formation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Needless to say, Silent Spring remains required reading in environmental courses and the environmental movement she started continuous.

I am requesting that you please forward this email to other members of your Anti-Big Oil networks, so that they can get a sense that fracking is a worldwide problem, and what it looks like in a country where people have not raised their voices against it. And what the oil corporations are up to across the world.

China GasChina Takes On Big Risks in Its Push for Shale Gas

New York Times

By KEITH BRADSHERAPRIL 11, 2014

JIAOSHIZHEN, China — Residents of this isolated mountain valley of terraced cornfields were just going to sleep last April when they were jolted by an enormous roar, followed by a tower of flames. A shock wave rolled across the valley, rattling windows in farmhouses and village shops, and a mysterious, pungent gas swiftly pervaded homes. Continue reading

Are our city officials and staff on top of the moratorium?

I want to know what you think. Send me an email lnoflin@carsoncaconnected.org or post your thoughts here.

It seems the moratorium will expire if there not on top of it.  City Council Item #25 is a request to cancel or reschedule the April 15th council meeting.  Link to item 25 staff report.

According to updated information received from our city attorney, the city must issue a report by April 22, 2014, the deadline to extend the moratorium is May 2, 2014, it requires a 10 day notice and 4/5th vote of the council.

It is very important we attend city council meetings until a satisfactory resolution of this matter is obtained and oil drilling in Carson is no longer a danger to us.

We’ve worked too hard to allow it to slip away.

Let City Council know the only thing that needs to expire is the Carson’s positions held by anyone who tries to block the extension of  the Moratorium on Hydraulic Fracturing and Ban on New Oil Drilling in the City of Carson

Sign the No New Drilling In Populated Areas petition, ask your family and friends to sign the online petition or you can print a copy to have them sign.

Moratorium Extension versus China Trip

By Glenn White

Ten days prior to the expiration of the ordinance, the City Council must issue a written report describing the measures taken to alleviate the condition that led to the adoption of the ordinance. (Gov’t Code Section 65858(d).) As it read this it’s impossible to provide such a report earlier than the deadline date, as those conditions haven’t had their opportunity to be alleviated.

Occidental Petroleum to move HQ to Houston, spin off California assets

By Shan Li February 14, 2014, 10:43 a.m.

FYI – As a courtesy, I am forwarding this statement I sent to the Daily Breeze.

Albert_RoblesThe concern that has caused me to request an item be placed on our agenda for the next City Council meeting next week on March 4th calling for this Oxy project to be shelved and stopped in its tracks is that we have absolutely no idea who we will be dealing with in the operations and management of this Project. The City of Carson is completely clueless and in the dark as to who, what company or what individuals will be managing the operations of this so-called Oxy Project. In fact the only thing we know for sure about who will be managing the operations of the Oxy Project – is that it will not be Oxy.
