The People’s Climate March

The People’s Climate March was a great day, with Jane Fonda, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., organizations and it is being reported more than 5,000 people came together to stand up for the health and well being of our community.  There was no sign of any Carson official at this event (you will find them in some of the photos below take at events on Saturday).   Could it be the donations made to them or their pet projects are keeping them from standing with us?  Is it their allegiance to the corporations, which kept them from alerting the public about the plans to build the largest refinery in the Western United States here in Carson?

We celebrate and appreciate when businesses like Tesoro and others give back to the communities where they are doing business.  They should give to schools, parks and organizations, but they should not consider their contribution to be a bribe to silence our citizens and elected officials from speaking up and protecting the health and wellbeing of our environment and community.

Jane Fonda
Jane Fonda posted about the event and why it’s so important we come together.  In her post she makes the connection between Standing Rock and the Tesoro refinery consisting of Shell and BP assets here in Wilmington and Carson.
Quote taken from Jane Fonda’s blog post:
The very explosive crude oil from North Dakota will, if we cannot prevent it, be brought through Standing Rock, under the Missouri River, across the Plains states down to this refinery as will the most dangerous, poisonous, methane-producing tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada. This is what the Keystone XL pipeline is all about.
