Just days after Jerry Brown inserted himself into Carson’s squabble over new oil and gas drilling in town, the governor appeared at a local union hall Friday evening seeking support for his re-election in November.

On Friday, Brown praised unions across the state, calling them “allies” and saying “together we can get stuff done.”

Carson residents joined the environmental activists to show their own distaste for the City Council’s change of heart over oil production in the city.

Carson officials lift moratorium on Occidental oil drilling project

They also faced pressure from unions with powerful political and economic influence in the state, and concern from Gov. Jerry Brown personally over blocking the Occidental project. Mayor Jim Dear could not be reached Wednesday, but sources said Brown called him before Tuesday’s meeting to discuss the moratorium.
